BULGARIA. Second Empire. Anonymous imitative issues, circa 14th century. Grosso (Silver, 18 mm, 1.34 g, 12 h), imitating a Venetian grosso. S M VЄNЄTI IOOΛICOV St. Mark, on the right, standing facing, holding book of Gospels in his left hand and presenting banner inscribed DVX to the doge, on the left, standing facing and holding the 'ducal promise' in his left hand. Rev. Christ, nimbate, seated facing on decorated throne and holding book of Gospels with both hands; in field to left and right, IC - XC. Cf. Raduchev & Zhekov 1.17.1 (for similar type). Lightly toned. Minor graffito on the obverse and with light doubling and a few minor die breaks on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
